Short Summary of Detector Technology Panel Session on 15/12
-----------------------------------------------------------
(compiled by Burkhard)

1. Andrei presented first results from the new backgound estimation.
The main message is that the backgound has gone down by about 30%,
which is very encouraging. The ps-files of his presentation can be
found under /afs/cern.ch/user/a/atsareg/public/hitd/
hitd220.ps, mubg220.ps and muon151299.ps.
Please look there for details.

Triggered by his presentation we had some discussion about the present
geometry in SICB, which contains only 2 single layers, and how it would
be best to treat 2 double layers, which is a more realistic chamber
description for an important part of the muon system. We agreed that the
best approximation for representing two double layers is to double the
number of single hits and add to it the number of double hits, thus
assuming that they would penetrate also 4 layers.

We also had some more discussion on the time distributions, noting that
out-of-time hits are mainly present in station 5. This might be related
to the bump seen for this station at r > 3m.

2. Burkhard presented an updated estimated for the rate capabilty in the
various stations and regions, based on Andrei's figures. We agreed that
a similar table would be necessary for ageing, where the main
difference would be that instead of using a peak luminosity of 5x10^32
/cm^2/s we would use an avarage luminosity of 2.5 x 10^32 /cm^2/s.

3. A brief summary was given about the status of the detector layout.

4. We came back to the question of the delivered charge in the TGC.
The numbers/conclusions given by Burkhard in a mail two weeks ago
are confirmed by a measurement by the Rome I group done in the summer.
They are looking into possibilities to reduce the total charge.

No further comments have been added to the the mails by Giuseppe and
Giovanni.

The meeting closed with an open discussion on possibilities of chamber
contruction in the various countries, without any definite conclusion.

5. We agreed on the schedule for the next meetings:

Wednesday 19/01 AM: Layout Working Group
PM: Detector Technology Panel
Thursday 20/01 AM: Detector Technology Panel
PM: FE-Architecture Working Group
Friday 21/01 AM: FE-chip Working Group
PM: Muon Meeting with short summaries and
some additional topics

In the Detector Technology Panel Sessions the presentations of the
proponents are expected, covering the points agreed upon in the
checklist. At that time also prelimnary notes should be made available
by the proponents.
